Dodgers Rumors: Insider Proposes Trade With Boston for Pitcher, Former All-Star Outfielder

Would this trade make sense for LA?

The Dodgers are in search for some help as the trade deadline quickly approaches. While the team has played a little better of late, they still remain in third place within the NL West and will need to make some upgrades if they want to win the division again. LA has the talent to get to the postseason if things go their way but winning in October will require more depth than they have right now.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report came up with a few trades that could help LA down the stretch. All were interesting but one in particular looked intriguing.

"

Dodgers get LHP James Paxton and OF Adam Duvall, Red Sox get RHP River Ryan and LHP Maddux Bruns

: The Red Sox need young pitching, so it would be a nice little coup to turn Paxton and Duvall into the No. 13 and No. 15 prospects in the Dodgers' system. Though both have control issues, Ryan and Bruns are live-armed hurlers who are having success in the minors"

Per Bleacher Report

Now within this deal, the Dodgers would be addressing two needs. An additional arm for the rotation and adding in more outfield depth. They would be parting with two young arms but the team has a treasure chest full of young pitchers and you have to give something up to get something of value.

On the year, Paxton holds a record of 3-1, an ERA of 3.19 and 54 strikeouts over 42.1 innings of work. He has started eight games this season after coming back from injury and has looked good. The veteran left-handed pitcher could help LA as a back end starter and give them some stability within the rotation.

He is scheduled to be a free agent after the season so if things don't work out then the Dodgers can cut ties. But the hope would be that he continues to be one of the best stories of the season and helps LA with some of their pitching issues.

Now like Paxton, Duvall is a free agent at the end of the season as well. The former All-Star is hitting .270 this season, with five home runs and 18 runs batted in. While he wouldn't be a major upgrade to their outfield, he could provide some nice depth and another option for the team to use in their platoon.

He's a right handed bat that still has some pop left and especially with all the injuries that the Dodgers have seen this season, he could make some sense.

All in all, this deal wouldn't be the worst for LA. They'd be giving up some middle ranked prospects in number 13 and number 15 but it could be fruitful as they'd get two veteran players that could help the rest of the season. This isn't a major move but helps upgrade things for LA at the edges and this could be an example of the type of move that the Dodgers do make this deadline.
