Rumors are swirling all around baseball as the August 1st trade deadline approaches. Among those, an old friend found his name caught in the rumor mill as the Boston Red Sox may look at trading Kiké Hernández.

According to The Athletic, the Giants and the Dodgers may have some interest in the utility fielder. Let's explore that.

First, the Dodgers need infield depth and are looking for a right-handed-hitting outfielder. Hernández fills both desires. Everyone enjoys his humor, so he will fit in the tight-knit Dodger clubhouse.

He can play almost everywhere on the baseball diamond even though he had difficulties at shortstop this season for Boston. With Miguel Vargas in Oklahoma City, the Dodgers need a right-handed-hitting second baseman, and Hernández can fill that role.

This season hasn’t been great for Hernández. The 31-year-old has a .219 batting average with 6 home runs and 31 RBI in 83 games. He lost his job as the starting shortstop, not that the Dodgers would need him there with Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor around.

Of course, the Dodgers would like to acquire a better and younger player than Hernández, but they might not be able to work out a deal for him. If the Red Sox want to trade him, the Dodgers may want to acquire him.

He's a free agent after the season.

On the Giants' side of the ledger, San Francisco's president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi was the Dodger general manager mostly while Hernández was in LA, so he knows Hernández well. He might help the Giants who are trying to dethrone the Dodgers at the top of the National League Western Division.

Knowing Zaidi, he will do whatever the Giants need to win the division.
