Dodgers Rumors: MLB Analyst Expects Big Things Out of LA’s Starting Rotation Next Season
The 2023 season was disappointing for most Dodger fans since getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS is viewed as unacceptable. However, the Dodgers reset their payroll and gave valuable experience to their young starters. Dan O'Dowd, the former general manager of the Colorado Rockies and now an analyst on MLB Network, thinks the Dodgers are in great shape heading into the offseason.
“From the payroll standpoint, now they have young starters. And then I’m sure they need to add to that, they need to add another impact starter. But now to go out and add a guy to Ohtani, it just, because they got it all set up elsewhere in the lineup to put him in the middle of it and take that next step of where they can go.”
Despite his poor NLDS start, Bobby Miller will be an ace in the near future. Out of necessity, the Dodgers rushed Miller to the major leagues at the end of May. From the start, he was special, but he matured into a good reliable major-league starter.
Emmet Sheehan has the most explosive fastball in the Dodger system. In his major league debut, Sheehan no-hit the San Francisco Giants for six innings. After a trip to Oklahoma City, he continues to pitch outstandingly.
After Ryan Pepiot was activated from the IL, he was outstanding. He likely should have appeared in the NLDS, but will play a big role for LA next season.
With a reasonably low payroll, the Dodgers can make a serious run at signing Shohei Ohtani to get some star power and acquire a good veteran starter once he begins pitching in 2025. They can also add another impact starter and round out what should be a really good starting rotation next season.
