Dodgers Rumors: Writer Thinks LA Should Trade 2 Top Pitching Prospects for Rays Starter
As the Los Angeles Dodgers get ready for the playoffs to start this weekend, the front office has started to think about the offseason a little bit. The main focus is on what happens this season, but it would be foolish to not think ahead.
The team will be making a run at Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, but they are going to need pitching help as well. Ohtani won’t be returning to the mound until 2025 because of his torn UCL, so the team will need to look elsewhere no matter if they land him or not.
LA could look at the free agent market, but they also could go look at other teams for help. President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman hasn’t been shy about making a trade that he believes will help the team, and that certainly won’t stop this offseason.
MLB writer Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report put together some potential trade packages for the offseason and has the Dodgers landing a very interesting arm from the AL East.
“Trade Proposal: Los Angeles Dodgers get RHP Tyler Glasnow; Tampa Bay Rays get RHP Emmet Sheehan and RHP Gavin Stone.
"There's a question of how much value Glasnow has beyond what he'll be paid in 2024, but it's hard to imagine the Rays offloading him without getting controllable arms back. In this case, they'd get a 23-year-old and 24-year-old who already have MLB experience.”

Getting a guy like Tyler Glasnow would give the Dodgers another ace-type pitcher to work with. After all, the playoff rotation right now and the rotation for next season look a bit murky at best, so Glasnow could help shore things out.
Losing Emmet Sheehan and Gavin Stone would hurt, but the Dodgers do have plenty of young arms in the farm system. Plus, to get talent, you have to give up talent.
In 21 games this season, Glasnow put up an ERA of 3.53 and struck out 162 over 120 innings. He has one more year on his contract, so the team could see how he does with them, and then decide to go from there.
"If nothing else, the thought of Glasnow pairing up with fellow tall, hard-throwing righty Bobby Miller makes this concept intriguing. And since they tend to have a risk-averse approach, it would be up the Dodgers' alley more than handing a huge check to a free agent."

This move would certainly be interesting if the Dodgers elected to pull the trigger on it. They will be looking all over for pitching help, and it could come from a familiar place like Tampa Bay this winter.
