The Dodgers need some help in the pitching department and badly. It continues to be an issue for this team and as the trade deadline quickly approaches, the team has some big decisions to make. They will need to decide whether or not they want to be aggressive in the market or if they want to play things safer and hope that their players turn things around.

LA has been hit with a ton of injuries so far this season so bringing in some help could really go a long way as the season continues on. But this year, the trade deadline could be a little slower than in previous years because more teams may be trying to reach the playoffs with the expanded format. But as always, there will always be sellers.

One of those sellers could be the St. Louis Cardinals, who sit at the bottom of the NL Central division with a little window forward for this year. However, St. Louis and the Dodgers may not be the most natural trade partners but writer Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed a trade between the two sides that could help solve some of the issues that LA has seen.

"Dodgers get LHP Jordan Montgomery and OF Dylan Carlson, Cardinals get RHP Gavin Stone, RHP Nick Frasso and LHP Maddux Bruns

: The Cardinals are another basement dweller that badly needs controllable pitching. In this trade, they’d get the Dodgers’ No. 5, No. 9 and No. 15 prospects. Stone has already seen major league action, while Frasso has a 75-grade fastball and has been using it to dominate with a 2.21 ERA for Double-A Tulsa."

Per Bleacher Report

On paper this trade looks intriguing and like something that President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman would do. Montgomery is having himself a nice season and is under team control through 2026. He would provide the Dodgers' rotation with some stability and give them another left-handed option to use.

While Montgomery wouldn't be a needle mover, he could be a solid depth pick up for LA. On the year, he holds an ERA of 3.52 in 16 games pitched. He has thrown 92 innings and struck out 85 batters. Montgomery has played for a big market team with title aspirations before as he spent a few years with the New York Yankees prior to being traded to the Cardinals.

As for Carlson, he could give the team a nice switch hitting outfielder. He is hitting.240 with five home runs and 19 runs batted in across 46 games. If anything, Carlson would be a depth piece for LA to use as another member of their outfield platoon.

No matter what the Dodgers do this trade deadline, they need some help. They can't keep throwing the same guys out there each and every day and expecting different results. This team is too talented to be wasted so the front office has some real choices to make soon.
