Dodgers Set Pitching Plan for Doubleheader vs Rockies in Colorado
Heading into the final week of the season, the Dodgers are using these final games as tune-ups for the postseason.
With the division and first-round bye wrapped up, the front office is focusing on working through different options with the pitching staff this next series in Colorado could be a sneak peek at things to come.
On Sunday, manager Dave Roberts confirmed what the pitching plans are for Tuesday's doubleheader at Coors Field.
In the first game that starts at 12:40 p.m., the team will throw an opener to begin the game then Ryan Pepiot will take the bulk of the innings after that. That opener hasn't been named yet, but Caleb Ferguson, Shelby Miller, and Brusdar Graterol are all at the top of the list.
Pepiot is still trying to prove that he can be a part of the Dodgers postseason roster, whether as a start or, more likely a bulk innings reliever.
In his past couple of starts, Pepiot has been dominant and has posted a 1.91 ERA and a 0.697 WHIP overall since joining the staff in the middle of August.
Following that game, Bobby Miller will start the nightcap of the doubleheader scheduled for 5:40 PM PT.
This will likely be Miller's final start before taking the ball at the beginning of the NLDS that starts October 7th.
On the season, Miller has been the best rookie pitcher out of the numerous ones that have made their debut for the Dodgers.
In 20 games, he has a 10-4 record with a 3.97 ERA.
This series against the Rockies will be Dodger fans' last glimpse at what could possibly be the postseason rotation. With the Dodgers already in the playoffs and the Rockies already eliminated, pitching will be a big focus.
