Dodgers Talking With AL Squad on Massive Trade to Bring Ace to LA
It's no secret what the Dodgers are looking for this offseason, and the entire league knows it. LA is focused on adding to their starting rotation this winter after an implosion from their starters last year.
The Dodgers are expected to be aggressive on all fronts, meaning both in free agency and via the trade market. And it seems that their focus may be on the trade market early on.
MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting that the Dodgers are in talks with the Chicago White Sox to bring ace starting pitcher Dylan Cease to Los Angeles.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers are in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox in an attempt to acquire ace Dylan Cease. The Dodgers badly need pitching help, and the White Sox badly need to rebuild their roster.”
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today
If LA was able to land Cease, it would vastly improve their rotation, and give them an ace-level starter. This is exactly what fans have been wanting from the Dodgers this offseason, and LA doesn't seem to be sitting on their hands.
Cease had a down year in 2023, but still showed flashes of brilliance. He posted an ERA of 4.58 over 33 starts and had a WHIP of 1.42. Cease also struck out 214 batters over 177 innings of work.
But he showed exactly how great he could be in 2022 when he posted an ERA of 2.20 over 32 starts. He has made at least 32 starts in each of his last three seasons, showing that he is a durable pitcher.
LA may also favor Cease because he is under team control for two more seasons. He doesn't hit free agency until 2026, and the Dodgers would love to keep costs down in their rotation while still getting top-level talent.
It remains to be seen if a deal will be made, but it's good news that they are in talks. Cease has the stuff the Dodgers are looking for, and he would easily slot into their number-one spot in the rotation.
