With just a few games left to go in the MLB regular season, the Dodgers find themselves in a familiar spot to last year. They will once again have the first-round bye and will wait to see who emerges from the Wild Card round to face them.

This means LA will get about a week off between the final regular season game and Game 1 of the NLDS. But even with the results from last postseason, the Dodgers still plan to use the same method from last year.

President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman spoke on this last weekend before the team's final home game of the season.

“I think it gets a lot to the specific group. I mean, there are obvious things that you want to make sure and check the boxes of, depending on your pitching staff and who’s pitched in that final weekend. You know, making sure to keep our arms live, making sure our position players get the live at-bats. We had a pretty good thing last year and like anything and everything, we’re taking the good from that continuing to adapt and evolve and involving some of our veteran players to help do that.”

Having a few days off in between everything can give this Dodgers team some extra rest after a long, grueling season. But there are also downsides, as we saw last year.

Momentum is everything in sports, so LA will need to make sure that they are staying fresh and ready to go. This year’s team doesn’t seem like that will be an issue, as they have been consistent throughout the season.

Freidman continued his thoughts on the Dodgers process between everything.

“But, you know, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, I think we’ll have a lot of competition and things going on here and trying to figure out some stakes to add just a little bit of adrenaline and that extra level of focus to try to get those reps in and be ready for Saturday.”

LA knows that they can’t take any team for granted, no matter who comes out of the Wild Card series. Last year, they believed they would just coast through it all, and they were knocked out in the first round.

But now this team has a chip on their shoulder. They want to prove people wrong and make up for what happened last season. They have the tools to go win it all, and now they just need to go out and execute their game plan to the best of their ability.
