Former Dodgers fan favorite Kenta Maeda seems to be getting closer to signing with a new team this offseason. MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post is reporting that he is heavily being looked at by the Detroit Tigers. Additionally, his former team — the Minnesota Twins — also has an interest in retaining him.

"Kenta Maeda is drawing interest from the Tigers and his old Twins."

Per Jon Heyman of The New York Post

Maeda returned from Tommy John surgery last season and pitched effectively for the Twins. He posted an ERA of 4.23 over 21 starts while striking out 117 over 104.1 innings of work.

His injury history could scare some teams off, but he showed that he could still produce last year. Maybe he could receive a two-year deal with a team option for the 2025 season.

Maeda could be a low-risk, potentially high reward option for whichever team lands him, and he brings veteran experience with him. He could be a mentor to either of the two pitching staffs and serve as a middle-of-the-pack rotation piece.

The Tigers have a need in their pitching staff after Eduardo Rodriguez opted for free agency. It remains to be seen if he will return to Detroit, but Maeda could help fill the gaps if he doesn't.

It was reported earlier in the offseason that the Los Angeles Angels could be interested in Maedam as well. His market seems to be fluid right now, but the Tigers look like they are making a big push to land him.

The former Dodger has put together a solid career for himself, and he was always loved while in Los Angeles. He is a professional through and through and would find success wherever he lands.
