Former Dodgers Great Continues Legacy Through Son in MLB Draft

An LA legend now sees his son get his own pro chance.

We've reached the back end of the 2023 MLB Draft, but not before a Los Angeles Dodgers legend had a very special family moment.

Eric Karros' son, Kyle, was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the fifth round of this year's draft, and now the younger Karros has an important decision to make of whether to begin his professional career or not.

Of course you may recall Eric Karros, who established himself as one of the most memorable Dodgers in franchise history during his 12-year run with the team.

Picked by the Dodgers in the sixth round of the 1988 Draft, Karros made his MLB debut three years later before winning the 1992 National League Rookie of the Year Award with a 20-homer and 88 RBI campaign to go along with a .257 batting average.

It was only up for Karros from there as he established himself as one of MLB's best first basemen throughout the 1990's, always being a consistent power threat in the heart of the Dodgers lineup.

His best statistical season was in 1999, when he hit .304 with 34 homers and 112 RBI, all of those being career bests for the infielder.

Kyle is the second Karros son to be selected in the MLB Draft, joining his brother, Jared, who was selected by the Dodgers in the 16th round of the 2022 Draft. Jared is currently pitching for the LA's Low-A affiliate in Rancho Cucamonga, where he's off to a strong start with a 2.35 ERA and an 0.89 WHIP.

Kyle's immediate future isn't certain, though. He has one year of eligibility left for the UCLA Bruins, giving him the option to return to college next season if he opts to go back to school.

For the speedy contact hitter with a slick glove, he has a bright future in pro ball ahead, whether he chooses to sign with the Rockies or go back to college and prep for the 2024 Draft.

One thing's for sure, though. People will be watching the Karros name succeed on baseball fields for many years to come, with Eric's son, Kyle, being the latest to have a chance in the pros.
