Cody Bellinger is having a phenomenal season with the Chicago Cubs, and many people expect him to be traded at the end of the month.

However, one MLB analyst made a different prediction, and that involved the end of the season. He thinks Bellinger could win the National League Comeback of the Year Award.

In the 2020 NLCS against the Atlanta Braves, during a post home run celebration, Bellinger separated his shoulder. After winning the world championship, Bellinger underwent shoulder surgery. He was ready for Opening Day in 2021.

The 2021 season was plagued with injuries for Bellinger, and when he could play, he didn’t have his batting stroke.

In 2022, Bellinger was healthy but still couldn’t hit well. He had a .210 batting average with 19 home runs and 68 RBI. He didn’t work well with the Dodger coaching staff. He kept his upright stance though he couldn’t hit high pitches.

The Dodgers didn’t offer him a contract in November, surprising many. He was a fantastic defensive center fielder, and the Dodgers didn’t have a clearcut replacement for Bellinger.

A change of scenery has helped Bellinger. With the Cubs, he has had a stint on the IL with a bruised knee, but has a .305 batting average with 12 home runs and 35 RBI. He still plays fantastic defense.

The less pressure to win in Chicago has been beneficial for Bellinger. If he continues playing up to his potential, he should be a leading candidate for the National League Comeback Player of the Year. A trade shouldn’t affect how he performs. Dodger fans wish Bellinger well.
