Former Dodgers OF Cody Bellinger Exits Game vs Astros With Injury After Incredible Catch
Former Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger has been enjoying a nice bounce back year this season.
After struggling in his final three years in Los Angeles — ultimately leading to the team non-tendering his contract — he signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs, looking to get his career back on track and his value back up to sign a longer-term deal next season.
So far, that plan has worked well. Even though he's struggled as of late, he's still hitting .271/.337/.493 this year with seven home runs, 20 RBIs, nine doubles, 14 walks and nine stolen bases.
He hit a few home runs and made a spectacular home run robbery against the Dodgers during their home-and-away series earlier this season, and has been making his case to make the All-Star team this season.
In this perfect season for Bellinger so far, though, he hit a bit of a speed bump on Monday. Hopefully that's all it is.
In the 7th inning of Monday's game, Bellinger made an incredible catch in center field, robbing Astros OF Kyle Tucker of a potential two-run home run. However, Bellinger came up gimpy on the play, and was forced to exit early.
Obviously I don't want to speculate on the injury at all, but hopefully it's nothing serious, and Bellinger is back in the lineup as soon as possible.
Bellinger Booed
One more storyline from this game is that Bellinger, the former Dodger, is playing in Houston. Obviously, every time the Astros or their former players from the 2017 team come to Dodger Stadium, Dodger fans like to shower them with boos. However, for some reason, the Astros fans decided to boo Bellinger on Monday.
I'm not sure if Astros fans know this, but the Dodger fans are booing the Astros because they cheated, not because they played against each other in the World Series. So unless I missed the story about Cody Bellinger and the Dodgers cheating in the World Series, Astros fans have no reason to boo Bellinger — but hey, to each their own I guess.
