Former Dodgers Pitcher Designated for Assignment By Chicago
The Cubs made a move Wednesday morning as the club designated RHP Shane Green for assignment.
The 34-year-old veteran relief pitcher had a very brief time in Chicago as he was called up a week ago and made one appearance for the team tossing a shutout inning for them.
Greene found his way on the Dodgers in 2021 after being released by the Atlanta Braves in August.
Greene tossed 8.2 innings in Dodger blue between 2021 and 2022 before being released.
Greene has played the majority of his MLB career in Detroit, tossing 313 innings in 5 years with the team. Since then, his stay at the Major League level has been inconsistent with the Braves being the only team to give him double-digit appearances.
The Braves acquired him in 2019 from the Tigers. That was the same year Greene earned his one and only All-Star appearance.
Since then, Greene has been a fringe roster spot on all the Major League teams he's been on, not seeing any considerable innings since the shortened 2020 season.
The experienced journeyman has tossed 471.2 innings of work in his 10-year career to the tune of a 4.52 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. The veteran will now look to be on his 5th team in just three short years.
Greene is serviceable and may possibly be picked up by a playoff team in need of any bullpen help for the rest of the season or possibly a postseason run.
