Former Dodgers Pitcher Traded From Rival Giants to Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Athletics are acquiring a former Dodgers pitcher. On Friday, the Athletics acquired one-time Dodgers All-Star Ross Stripling and cash from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor-league outfielder Jonah Cox.
In the same announcement, Oakland stated that the team agreed to terms with Stripling's teammate with both the Dodgers and Giants, Alex Wood.
Stripling recently voiced his opinion about his old team on Foul Territory, saying the Dodgers are going "full villain mode."
“As far as what the Dodgers did, the way I look at it is that they are just going full villain mode in a way. They’ve always had the payroll, but they’ve done an unbelievable job in drafting and developing talent. I think that World Series team had like 16 home grown Dodgers on it. Now it’s Freddie, it’s Mookie, it’s Shohei and it’s Yamamoto, and they’re coming for everybody.”
Now, he won't have to directly deal with the Dodgers, as he's heading to the American League West instead.
Stripling struggled as a Giant in 2023. He was 0-5 with an earned run average of 5.36 in 22 appearances with 11 stars. All a career-worst.
However, he's shown signs of being a strong versatile pitcher, especially from his time with L.A.
In 2018, he went 8-6 with a 3.02 ERA in 33 appearances and 21 starts. He should get a chance to be a consistent starter with Oakland — and he may be a popular player come the trade deadline if a contender is looking for a hybrid starter or reliever.
