Former Dodgers Slugger Out With Cubs, Elects Free Agency
After signing a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs last offseason, a former Dodger is once again looking for a new contract as he hits free agency.
Edwin Rios spent parts of four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2019-2022.
Rios never had an opportunity to play everyday with the Dodgers but did make an impact whenever he was in the lineup.
Through 112 games played in LA, Rios did not hit for average as he hit .219 with the team, but did slug 20 home runs in less than 300 plate appearances.
Rios was on the team's Opening Day roster in 2022 but due to injury was never able to find himself back at Dodger Stadium.
The left-handed bat decided to go find somewhere else where he could be played more often.
He chose Chicago this past offseason and made their Opening Day roster alongide his former teammate, Cody Bellinger.
Unfortunately for Rios, just like 2022, his 2023 season did not see a lot of major league time as he suffered an injury and spent the rest of the season in the minors.
In 18 games with the Cubs, Rios only hit .079 and did not show off his power. In 34 plate appearances he only hit one home run which was also his only RBI of the year.
While most Dodgers fans are anticipating where a different Cub who used to play for the Dodgers is going to land with, Rios is another name to keep an eye out for.
