Former Dodgers Starting Pitcher Makes Recruiting Pitch To Shohei Ohtani
As the baseball world waits for free agent Shohei Ohtani to make his decision on where he will play next season, there are plenty of rumors. Each day a new team emerges from the pack, and it makes for awesome speculation.
The Dodgers have been one of the more consistent names linked to Ohtani, and they remain the frontrunners to sign him. But there are a few others that could make life tough on LA.
Teams such as the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers all offer different elements to the two-way superstar and could steal him away from LA. Recently former Dodgers starting pitcher Max Scherzer of the Rangers made his own recruiting pitch to Ohtani on the Foul Territory show.
Texas is coming off winning the World Series and Ohtani knows them well from his days with the Angels. He could slot in very well in their lineup, and they would be the undisputed favorite to win it all next season.
The Dodgers and Rangers may be the two top favorites to get Ohtani, but it's unknown how serious the Rangers are about him. While they would love to have him, they may not be able to afford what it would take to land his services.
It's a bit ironic that Scherzer says money isn't everything when two years ago, he left the Dodgers to chase the bag with the New York Mets. The Mets traded him within a year and a half because they were underperforming, and he won with Texas.
Either way, Ohtani has a big decision to make and nobody really knows how it will go. He doesn't speak to the media often, so we probably won't know anything until he officially signs with a team.
