Former Dodgers World Series Champion DFA’d By MLB Bottom Feeder
The Kansas City Royals designated Matt Beaty, a former Dodger World Series Champion, for assignment Monday.
Beaty, who had only appeared in 26 games for the Royals, was also DFA'd by the San Francisco Giants in late May after playing in just four games, striking out twice in five at-bats.
Beaty wasn't terrible in Kansas City, batting .232 in 56 at-bats, but lacked explosiveness, driving on only 3 three runs with zero home runs. His strengths center more around his consistent approach to at-bats with an emphasis on getting on base.
Beaty started his major league career in 2019 with the Dodgers, having a solid rookie year that ended with him hitting at a .265/.317/.458 clip. He was a part of the 2020 World Series-winning team, appearing in two postseason games. While he didn't record any hits in the postseason, he did record a walk and two hit-by-pitches, tallying his 2020 on-base percentage to be a perfect 1.000 in the postseason.
Now that Beaty is officially off of the Royals' 40-man roster, he can either be traded or placed on outright or unconditional release waivers. If any teams decide to claim Beaty, he will immediately be added to their 40-man roster, but can be optioned to the minor leagues.
Will the Dodgers pick up Beaty as they prepare for the postseason? Probably not. But the 30-year-old will likely be in someone's system by the beginning of the 2024 season.
