Latest Dodgers Hiring May Be With an Eye on a Shohei Ohtani Signing

Is LA positioning itself even more here?

As the offseason gets going for the Dodgers, they have plenty of decisions to make on how to get their team back into a position to contend. Starting pitching is a real need for LA, but they also have other needs across the roster.

The Dodgers recently made a hiring that could be seen as them positioning themselves for a bigger potential move down the line. LA hired Lorenzo Sciarrino to be their new senior Vice President of Global Partnerships.

While the Dodgers brand is massive around the globe, this could be a move that helps set them up if they were to land free-agent two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. It's no secret that the Dodgers will be making an aggressive attempt to land him this winter, and if they did sign him, the endorsements would be huge for them.

Ohtani is one of the biggest brands in sports, and he is easily the most marketable player in baseball right now. The Dodgers could bring in even more money to the table if they were to sign him, so setting themselves up, even potentially, is smart.

The Angels made a ton of money from the endorsements with Ohtani, and the Dodgers want to do the same. But the difference is that LA has seen much more success on the field than the Angels, giving them an edge that the Halos never had.

Not only would Ohtani help the team in terms of endorsements, but his bat would be great in the lineup. He is the frontrunner to win the American League MVP award again, and he would bring some real star power to Los Angeles with him.

It seems that the Dodgers just made their first move to position themselves to sign Ohtani. They have wanted him in Dodger Blue for some time now, and this offseason will be their chance to finally make it come true.
