Shohei Ohtani Reveals New Information on His Wife, Their Relationship
Shohei Ohtani shocked almost everyone — including his current and former teammates — when he announced earlier this week that he had gotten married. The announcement on his Instagram account did not include a picture of Ohtani or his spouse, but rather text (in Japanese) and a picture of his dog, Dekopin or "Decoy."
In the announcement, Ohtani said, "To all my friends and fans throughout, I have an announcement to make: Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married. I am excited for what is to come and thank you for your support."
It's been a huge week for Ohtani. He made his Cactus League debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers by hitting a home run on Tuesday, and reached base in all three of his plate appearances Friday, driving in a run.
Little is known about Ohtani's wife. The Dodgers' designated hitter managed to keep their relationship entirely out of the limelight.
However, Ohtani did reveal some new details about their relationship in a recent interview with Number Web.
Ohtani said he is two years older than his wife. The pair is also watching the show "House of Shinobi" on Netflix. He added in that since she works in Japan, he spent the majority of his time rehabbing with Decoy.
He also shared that they have a couple differences, including that his wife is much more of a reader than he is.
These insights offered a few more details into Ohtani's marriage, which remains mostly unknown — and will be a massive topic of intrigue in Japan whether or not Ohtani divulges more information about his wife.
