Yoshinobu Yamamoto Details Why Dodgers Won Him Over in Free Agency

Winning organizations sign winning players.

The Dodgers' blockbuster signing of Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a reflection of the organization as a whole under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes. They are simply a winning franchise.

Yamamoto thought no different in his free agency decision-making process. During his introductory press conference, Yamamoto detailed some things that helped win the Dodgers the bid for his services.

“Obviously the Dodgers are a very historic franchise, but more than that, winning now, winning into the future was probably the most important thing,” Yamamoto said.

Per Cary Osborne of Dodger Insider:

Yamamoto is committed to winning multiple World Series titles with the Dodgers, and he has confidence in the organization to help make that happen. He also believes in himself, which is a great indication of his confidence level.

All of his comments, and more broadly, his decision to sign with the Dodgers, show the organization's consistent commitment to winning. They have built up a winning culture along the way, which has allowed them the opportunity to land players like Yamamoto.

Offseason after offseason, high-level players are added, as back in 2022, it was Freddie Freeman. In 2023, it was J.D. Martinez. Now entering 2024, it's Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

It takes consistency, high-level management and ownership's willingness to spend. The Dodgers are active each offseason, and they have built arguably the greatest lineup of all time to pair with an outstanding pitching staff.
