Former SF Giants legend Buster Posey recently decided to move back to the Bay Area. He is also headed back to Florida State University, where he starred for the baseball team from 2006-08, to finish the degree he started over fifteen years ago.

Posey was originally drafted in the 50th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels, but Giants fans are thankful he decided to head to college instead. After his college career, the Giants drafted him with the fifth overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Posey made his debut for the Giants in September of 2009 and subsequently brought three championships home to the Bay in 2010, 2012, and 2014. He spent his entire career with the Giants and never donned another MLB team’s uniform.

Posey hopes to complete his degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science. Per NBC Sports Bay Area, Posey wants to be a good role model for his four children. Posey has already shown great dedication to his family, opting out of the 2020 season out of caution for his two twin daughters born prematurely.

“I've kicked the tires on this for a while,” Posey told the Tallahassee Democrat about returning to college. "I've been going back and forth but finally committed to it a few months ago. I am a little nervous about it.”

Posey, who retired in 2021 after 13 seasons with the Giants, is returning to the Bay Area soon, listing his Georgia properties for sale in August. He has already frequented Oracle Park this season, being seen sitting near the Giants dugout with chairman Greg Johnson. After becoming a part-owner of the SF Giants last year, Posey has had growing involvement with the team.

To get back into the groove of classes, Posey is taking his two FSU courses online.

“It's going to take some work, but it would certainly be [an achievement] to feel good about,” Posey told the Tallahassee Democrat.
