SF Giants coach Alyssa Nakken expecting her first child
The SF Giants will have a new member of the organization in 2024 Robert A. Nakken, the husband of Giants coach Alyssa Nakken announced on social media that the couple is expecting their first child in February. He captioned the post “Baby Nak is on the way!!🐣🤰Due February 9th 2024 #girldad”. The post showed an image of a Giants custom City Connect jersey with “Nak” etched on the back, “Baby Nak” is sure to come into this world with style.
"We're all really happy for Alyssa," Giants manager Gabe Kapler said prior to the team's game on Monday. "She's doing great, and we're excited to support her through this on every level."
In 2014, Alyssa Nakken joined the SF Giants as a baseball operations intern working on aspects of the health and wellness programs and later helped instruct baserunning and outfield defense. In 2020 she made history when she became an assistant coach, as she was the first woman to coach full-time in the MLB.
Nakken continued to make history, as last year, In 2022, she became the first woman to coach on the field during a regular season game, serving as the first base coach after Antoan Richardson was ejected. During spring training this year, Nakken served as the acting bench coach, another MLB first for a woman. The move signified her continued emergence into more prominent roles with the team.
Before beginning her career with the Giants, Nakken was a multisport athlete at Woodland High School, where she graduated in 2008. She later attended Sacramento State and was a three-time all-conference softball player and four-time Academic All-American during her career from 2009-2012. After receiving her psychology degree from Sacramento State, Nakken later earned a master's degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco.
