The SF Giants have a timetable for Mitch Haniger's return after he underwent surgery on his fractured forearm. The team told reporters on Friday that Haniger had a fractured ulna and underwent surgery to implant a plate and screws into his forearm to help him recover. According to the team, they are optimistic Haniger could return to the field in roughly 10 weeks.

Haniger had already dealt with injuries early this season that seemed to get him out of rhythm at the plate. In 40 games this season, Haniger hit .230/.281/.373 with nine doubles, four home runs, nine walks, and 42 strikeouts and 160 plate appearances. Despite his struggles, though, Giants manager Gabe Kapler was confident that he was close to turning the corner at the plate prior to his injury.

Many Giants fans were wary when the organization signed Haniger to a three-year deal prior to the 2023 season, given his long history of injuries. Haniger has been sidelined throughout his professional career, going back to his days in the minor leagues, when he most notably suffered a torn PCL.

When looking at the laundry list of injuries he’s suffered in MLB, they include a myriad of freak injuries that could only be explained by bad luck. He’s had broken fingers, severely sprained ankles, and a strained right oblique. He ruptured his testicles by fouling an offering from Justin Verlander directly into his crotch and took a 95 mph fastball to the face. He’s also had to get a sports hernia surgically corrected and has had an operation on his back as well. All in all, Haniger has missed around 400 games due to injury so far in his career. Obviously, the SF Giants hope Mitch Haniger's health luck can change after he returns to the field from his latest surgery.
