The SF Giants selected outfielder Scott Bandura with their seventh-round (210th overall) pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Princeton University. The slot value for the 210th selection is $246,500, but the Ivy League star is a candidate to be a slightly below-slot signing.

Bandura may be the best pure hitter out of the Ivy League in years. While a hamstring injury limited him to just eight games in 2022, he hit .363/.454/.655 with 12 home runs and nearly as many walks (31) as strikeouts (36) in 219 plate appearances.

As tends to be the case among prospects targeted by the Giants, Bandura has a good sense of the strike zone and has tended to make above-average swing decisions. His swing also does a good job of generating loft and his powerful 6'4'' frame has the potential to generate above-average power if he can handle professional pitching. Of course, coming from the Ivy League, he will have to make a significant adjustment. to succeed.

Bandura has played all three outfield positions during his college career, but with limited range and a fringey arm, he will likely be limited to left field as a pro. Given his offensive profile, Bandura will need to develop a truly elite hit tool to find his way to the major leagues.

Fans may not know Bandura from his college playing days, but they might recognize his name from the 2014 Little League World Series. Bandura was the catcher for the Taney Dragons and formed a battery with Little League sensation Mo'Ne Davis.

The Giants will have some time before their next selection, which will be the 240th overall pick (eighth round). We'll see who else joins the SF Giants 2023 MLB Draft class.
