Guardians Complete Trade With Padres, Roster Moves
The Cleveland Guardians had a busy Wednesday in terms of roster construction. They made several roster moves ahead of their matchup with the Boston Red Sox including a trade for another pitcher.
Traded For RHP Pedro Avila
The Guardians and San Diego Padres agreed to a trade on Wednesday that sent RHP Pedro Avila to the Guardians in exchange for cash considerations. Avila will not be active on Wednesday and is expected to join the major league roster “in the coming days,” per Guardians Communications Department.
He needs to be added to the 40-man roster which require Cleveland to make another move then.
Ben Lively Activated From IL
Cleveland activated Ben Lively from the injured list on Wednesday and he’s set to make his Guardians debut against the Red Sox as the starting pitcher for the third game of their series.
Like Xzavion Curry, Lively caught the nasty virus that was floating around the organization during spring training. This forced him to be shut down from throwing effectively restarting his ramp-up for the season. Lively made two rehab starts at Triple-A and is now ready to help out a depleted pitching staff at the big league level.
Eli Mogan To Injured List
Eli Morgan played a key role in Cleveland’s extra-innings win over the Red Sox on Tuesday night. However, he’s now been placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Morgan has made nine appearances for the Guardians in 2024 and owns a 2.16 ERA. He’s certainly been a guy that has shown he can eat up innings.
Angel Martinez Transferred to 60-Day Injured List
Angel Matinez has yet to appear in a game at the minor league level in 2024 after a strong spring training performance. It appears it’ll be a while until he’s back in action. Cleveland placed Martinez on the 60-day injured list with a fractured hamate in his left hand. His anticipated return to full game activity is 5-7 weeks.
