LOOK: Eclipse Takes Over Progressive Field On Guardians’ Opening Day
The Cleveland Guardians knew months ago that this was going to be a home opener unlike any other. Not because of what was happening on the field, but was going on above it. Northeast Ohio experienced a once-in-a-lifetime event on Monday afternoon with a total solar eclipse encapsulating the city. It even forced the team to start their first game of the season at Progressive Field later than it typically would for an afternoon game.
The picture and images circulating from the event are incredible and those at Progressive Field got to see it first hand. Here are some of the best views from the ballpark.
The Guardians all gathered right outside the dugout waiting for the spectacle to begin. Don't worry, everyone had the proper glasses!
Manager Stephen Vogt was especially excited for the event as he stared up at the sky waiting for it to begin.
MLB posted an incredible time-lapse of the eclipse taking place. Here you can see the moon fully block out the sun as the lights lit up the ballpark.
Here's another view of everyone in the stands, including the teams watching the eclipse take place. Knowing that it's 3 pm on a Monday afternoon makes it that much more incredible. It looks like the seventh-inning game of a Friday night with fireworks soon to follow.
Progressive Field did allow fans to come into the park early so they could also see this once in a lifetime event. Now that the eclipse is over, we can get back to Guardians baseball!
First pitch will be at 5:10 pm.
