Yankees-Guardians Series Opener Postponed Due To Inclement Weather
Friday night was supposed to mark the start of a three-game series between the two best teams in Major League Baseball: the New York Yankees (10-3) and Cleveland Guardians (9-3).
However, the beginning of this series will have to wait.
On Friday afternoon, the Guardians announced that their series opener against the Yankees has been postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled as the first game of a split doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at 12:10 p.m. Saturday’s originally scheduled contest is set to begin at 6:10 p.m.
This is Cleveland’s second postponed game of the season, and first home postponement of the year. The team’s April 7 road series finale against the Minnesota Twins was postponed to August 9.
According to The Associated Press’s Tom Withers, Friday’s originally scheduled Guardians starter, Carlos Carrasco, and Triston McKenzie are set to pitch for Cleveland tomorrow. However, their order is yet to be determined.
Fans should expect a pitchers' duel this weekend, as the Guardians and Yankees currently rank top-10 in MLB in team ERA (2.69, fourth and 2.67, third, respectively), hits allowed (83, third-fewest and 96, tied for eighth-fewest, respectively), and team opposing batting average (.215, fifth and .219, tied for sixth, respectively).
Offensively, Cleveland and New York currently rank top-10 in MLB in on-base percentage (.335, ninth and .345, eighth, respectively) and sacrifice flies (eight, first and five, tied for eighth, respectively).
The Yankees won the 2023 overall six-game series between these two teams 4-2, and last season’s three-game home series 2-1.
