Amed Rosario's Big Night Helps Lift Guardians Over Red Sox
As nice as it would be to always smoke a ball through the gap, drive it down the line, or mash home runs, the reality is that this won't always be the case. Sometimes the ball finds the perfect hop or takes an awkward bounce and the defense can't field it. but you still get on base.
This is exactly what happened to Amed Rosario on Wednesday night as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2 in the middle game of the series. Rosaio's final box score looked pretty good, but he had to work for those hits.
Rosario finished the night going 3-for-4 from the plate. His first two hits never left the infield, but Rosario was able to get on base because of his hustle and speed. He also recorded an RBI on his third hit when was a double to left field scoring Steven Kwan. Rosario also came around to score a pair of runs himself too.
His production at the plate made him responsible for over half of Cleveland's runs in a game where they desperately needed some offense.
This three-hit game is Rosario's 37th since the start of the 2021 season (when Cleveland traded for him). That's the only behind Freddie Freeman. Rosario's 61 infield hits since the start of 2021 are the second most in MLB trailing Trea Turner.
When Rosario has it going, he can be considered one of the best hitters in baseball. Hopefully, last night's performance is what he needed to get it going.
After the game, Rosario said that his mindset is always trying to get the ball in play and get on base. Even though infield hits may not be ideal, he'll "take it."
