Cleveland Guardians Releasing City Connect Uniforms This Season
The Cleveland Guardians last added a jersey to their uniform collection in November of 2018, when they added an alternate red jersey to their slate. Cleveland also made a change to its uniforms last season when it added Marathon as a jersey patch sponsor.
Now, the team has a new uniform on the way.
On Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced that nine teams will be releasing City Connect uniforms during the upcoming 2024 season, and the Guardians were on the list.
Cleveland’s newest uniform is set to be released at some point between Opening Day and the All-Star Break.
According to Brent Maguire of MLB.com, “Introduced in the 2021 season, the Nike MLB City Connect Series celebrates each city's deep-rooted history, culture and spirit that continues to bring the clubs and their communities together.” With this in mind, Guardians fans should expect the team’s newest uniform to have ties to the city of Cleveland itself.
This uniform, though, will not be the first city-themed uniform for a major Cleveland sports team. The NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers have had a City Edition uniform each season since the 2017-18 season. Inspirations for these uniforms have included the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Metroparks, and Playhouse Square.
At the moment, the Guardians have four uniforms. Their home uniform features a white jersey, white pants, and a navy cap with a red bill. Their alternate home uniform is the same, with a red jersey being the only difference.
Cleveland’s away uniform features a gray jersey, gray pants, and an all-navy cap. The team’s alternate away uniform is the same, except it has a navy jersey instead.
With a new City Connect uniform set to debut this year, Guardians fans have yet another reason to look forward to the 2024 season.
