Danny Salazar to Make Rehab Start at Mahoning Valley Tuesday
Cleveland Indians right handed pitcher Danny Salazar is scheduled to take the mound for the Low-A Mahoning Valley Scrappers Tuesday night, rehabbing a right shoulder injury.
Salazar has made two rehab starts since being placed on the DL on June 23 and neither of the starts were pretty.
On July 1, he worked 1.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits, including a home run. He struck out three and walked two in Double-A Akron.
On July 6, he lasted 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits, all of which were solo home runs. He struck out four and walked two.
Salazar is expected to throw approximately 75 pitches Tuesday night.
He made 10 starts and two relief appearances between April and June 3 with the Tribe, going 3-5 with a 5.40 ERA, striking out 77 batters in 55 innings.
At his best this season, Salazar went six or more innings in three of his ten starts, all of which came in April.
On April 12, he struck out 11 in six innings, allowing two earned runs.
On April 17, he struck out seven, allowing one earned run over six innings.
On April 29, he went 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits, striking out six.
On May 21, he went 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, striking out seven.
Those four starts were his best of the year and if he can get back to pitching like that, he at least gives the Tribe a chance to win.
More often than not this season, Salazar's results have been far from encouraging, but let's see if he can put together a quality outing in Mahoning Valley Tuesday night.
