Guardians Standing Firm With Their Roster, Don't Appear Ready To Call Up Any More Prospects
The Cleveland Guardians are in one of the worst offensive slides fans have seen in years. They're struggling to score runs and they've now dropped to third in the AL Central standings bending the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers.
It's hard to hide the struggles one player is having the the entire team seems to be in a slump. But how long will the organization wait until they make some changes to the lineup considering their problems and the division slipping away at the beginning of May?
It doesn't appear that they're ready to make any moves or call up any more prospects from Triple-A anytime soon.
Before Friday's game, Terry Francona talked about the team's slump at the plate and the possibility of looking to Columbus for help:
"These are our guys. We've got to run it out there because the quicker they get it the better"
"I think you do what is in the best interest of your team ... As far as our position layers go, they're here. Sometimes, if you're supposed to be patient or you need to be patient, you better be patient or you're going to mess up. If we thought we had something better about our team, we would do it. But again, we've called up a lot of young guys. Not just going to keep calling guys up."
I understand where Tito is coming from. In order to get your team going, they need to know they aren't going to be replaced by someone else because that's adding yet another negative thought to a team that's searching for any positivity.
Never underestimate the power of consistency and stability.
However, Tyler Freeman and Brayan Rochhio are currently tearing up Minor League pitching and are playing well below their level of ability.
They can't stay at Triple-A forever.
Note: This story was published before the organization announced they promoted Tyler Freeman and optioned Oscar Gonzalez.
