Guardians Standouts One Week Through Spring Training
Week one of 2023 Spring Training is in the books and there's been a lot to like about the Cleveland Guardians. They own a 4-5-1 record, but wins and losses shouldn't be what fans are looking at.
We should be looking for who could make a large contribution when the season starts and there are a number of players who are already starting to show this.
Micah Pries
Starting off the first week of Spring Training slashing .333/.412/1.000 with a 1.412 certainly isn't a bad way to start the season. This is exactly what Micah Pries has done as he's demonstrating what could be a solid bench piece.
This has been over a pretty hefty sample size too. Pries has played in eight games including 15 at-bats. In that playing time, he's racked up five hits including two home runs, and a triple. He also has five RBI, so he's hitting in the clutch too.
If Pries keeps up this production he could force his way onto the 40-man roster and a spot on the Big League club.
Hunter Gaddis
There's a possibility that there could be a spot in the pitching rotation up for grabs at some point of the season and Hunter Gaddis is making a case for it so far in Spring Training.
He's appeared in two games and pitched 4.1 innings. Over that time he's only allowed one hit, struck out six batters, and walked just three. Gaddis has given up two runs, however, only one was earned.
Gaddis made his Big League debut in 2022, but it didn't go the way he would've liked. There's a chance we're looking at a completely different pitcher in 2023.
Roman Quinn
Anyone who hits three home runs in the first week of Spring Training is going to make the standouts list. This is exactly what Roman Quinn did in just the first half of the week to kick off the Spring.
However, the veteran cooled off in the second part of the week and his three home runs are still the only three hits he has.
