Logan Allen To Injured List, Guardians Roster Moves
The Cleveland Guardians season officially came to an end on Friday night as the Minnesota Twins clinched the American League Central for the second time in three seasons.
With that, Cleveland also made a couple of unfavorable roster moves on Saturday afternoon.
Logan Allen To Injured List
The Guardians placed rookie LHP Logan Allen on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation.
This essentially ended his first season as a Big League pitcher and a successful season it was. Allen made 24 starts for Cleveland posting an ERA of 3.81 and a 1.40 WHIP. Of course, he went through typical rookie struggles but overall showed he can be a solid member of this rotation for years to come.
Now he focuses on getting healthy and coming back for a crucial 2024 season for the Guardians.
Losing Allen stings a little less for Guardians fans seeing Shane Bieber take the mound on Friday night for the first time in two months.
Michael Kelly Recalled
Cleveland needed to add another arm to their pitching staff after losing Allen. They elected to recall Michael Kelly from Triple-A to take his spot.
Kelly has bounced back and forth from the Minors and the Major League roster all season but has made his fair share of appearances when called up. The right-hand pitcher has appeared in 13 games for the Guardians this season pitching 14.2 total innings.
The key skill that Kelly brings to the pitching staff is his ability to throw multiple innings in one outing. This will be crucial to have in the bullpen being down a starting pitcher.
