Matt Moore's Stint With Cleveland Comes To An End, Guardians Roster Moves

The Miami Marlins claim Matt Moore off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians.

The Cleveland Guardians shocked the baseball world when they opted to pick up three former Los Angeles Angels pitchers off waivers after they were cut for financial reasons.

Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, and Matt Moore left LA and came over to Cleveland for the remainder of the season in hopes of securing another American League Central crown. The Guardians fell out of that race and found themselves in a tough spot as they searched for multi-inning efforts from their relievers.

All three of the pitchers were highly sought after on the waiver wire and many contending teams hoped that they would fall to them. But none of them have stood out as game-changing additions since arriving in Cleveland.

The Guardians recognized this and decided to place Moore back and waivers as they simultaneously activated RHP Michael Kelly off the injured list. Kelly can provide the Guardians with numerous innings out of the bullpen which could be even more important now with Tanner Bibee's season coming to an end

Moore only pitched 4.2 innings in five appearances with the Guardians and wasn't amazing with his opportunities. He gave up nine hits including a homer run bringing his Cleveland ERA to 3.86.

The Miami Marlins, who are currently battling for one of the final National League Wild Card Slots, picked up Moore off waivers and added him to the bullpen for the rest of the season.

However, Moore is not postseason eligible and the Marlins will not be able to use him if they do end up making the playoffs.
