Offense Shows Signs Of Life As Guardians Fall To Orioles
The Cleveland Guardians have run into issues all season with inconsistency. When the offense is on, the pitching struggles. When a starter has a good game, the bullpen can't command and close it out.
Their loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night is a perfect example of how this team just hasn't clicked at the same time this year.
The Guardians scored eight runs on 11 hits. Something that feels like an impossible task with how the offense has worked this season. With how good the pitching has been, you would think they were able to walk away with a win. Right?
Not exactly. Cal Quantrill really struggled against Baltimore's offense giving up seven runs in the first two innings. He did go on to pitch into the fourth inning, but the damage was already done.
The Guardians didn't even get a hit until the fourth inning. But the offense did look solid when they got it rolling.
Josh Naylor, Andres Gimenez, Will Brennan, and Myles Straw all recorded multi-hit games. These are all players who desperately needed some offensive success, even if it came in a loss.
Gimenez has struggled with his velo all season but ripped a double with an exit velo of 102.5. Plus, this hit would've been a homer in 2/30 ballparks. So, that's something.
Straw has also been a weak contact hitter this year but had a single that came off the bat with a 94.6 exit velo.
Sometimes, it's the small wins you have to look at when an offense is struggling as much as Cleveland's is.
The Guardians took game one, so the series is tied heading into Wednesday afternoon. Let's see if Cleveland can put all the pieces together with Shane Bieber on the mound and walk away with a series win against one of baseball's best teams.
