Progressive Field, Guardians To Honor Terry Francona
Terry Francona still hasn't officially announced he's retiring, but the writing is on the wall. The baseball lifer has more than hinted at his impending announcement and said on multiple occasions he's "at peace" and "it's time" when asked about calling it a career.
The Cleveland Guardians and Progressive Field decided to not wait until Tito makes his news official before honoring him during their final homestand of the season. The Guardians wrap up their last two series at home this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles and next week against the Cincinnati Reds
Fans can expect to see this if they make it downtown next week:
- "Thank you, Tito" T-Shirts given out to fans
- Pregame video tribute
- $11 tickets in honor of Francona's 11 seasons as Cleveland's manager
This is a nice touch from the organization to make sure Tito is recognized for everything he has done for the city and team. He's made it clear on multiple occasions that he doesn't want to announce he's retiring and take away any focus from the players before the season is over.
Francona has won three Manager of the Year Awards and appeared in three World Series over his career including one with the Indians in 2016. Fans can understandably be frustrated with the manager at times with the lineups he puts out or minor details but we still can't ignore the impact he has in the clubhouse and the respect the players have for him.
Legends deserve recognition and a legend is what Francona is.
