REPORT: Cubs, Reds Active In Trade Talks For Guardians’ Shane Bieber
Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Shane Bieber has been the subject of trade rumors for some time now.
MLB.com also recently named Cleveland’s ace as a potential trade candidate.
This speculation has now taken a step towards becoming a reality.
According to MLB Network reporter Jon Morosi, the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are two teams who are active in trade conversations for Bieber and Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow.
Morosi joined MLB Network’s show “Hot Stove” on Tuesday morning to further discuss the situation.
“In the last 24 hours, I was receiving information that the markets for both Glasnow and Bieber are strong in the trade department, and that the Cubs and Reds are involved in each,” Morosi said.
He also described how Bieber’s healthy end of the 2023 season drew interest from other teams.
“And that was important for him, and for the Guardians, that Bieber ended the year on the active roster healthy. So teams had a chance to watch Bieber pitch late. And I saw late in the season, he was there in Detroit, there were scouts there from teams looking at Bieber to make sure that he was healthy. And overall, the returns were pretty good.”
The 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner was placed on the 60-day injured list in July due to inflammation in his pitching elbow. After missing nearly three months, the 28-year-old made two starts in late September.
In these starts, Bieber went 1-0 in a combined 11 innings pitched, allowing 11 hits, six runs (five earned), and one walk, while throwing 12 strikeouts.
Additionally, Morosi mentioned that the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants could also be options for a Bieber trade.
Based on this recent report, it appears that Bieber’s trade market is officially heating up.
