REPORT: Kai Correa To Join Guardians Coaching Staff

The Cleveland Guardians reportedly hired Kai Correa in an unspecified role.

The Stephen Vogt era has begun for the Cleveland Guardians and with that a number of new faces joining his coaching staff.

Robert Murray, MLB Insider for Fansided, reported that the Guardians were hiring former San Francisco Giants bench coach Kai Correa. However, his role with the Cleveland organization is still undetermined according to the report.

One possibility is that he will become Cleveland's new bench coach. This is a position in which he has previous experience and the Guardians are in need of a new one after former bench coach DeMarlo Hale took a job with the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the offseason.

Correa has never played professionally, but that doesn't take away the experience that the 35-year-old has already gained.

Correa became the Giants' bench coach in 2020 and filled that role for three seasons. At that time, he was the youngest bench coach in the league and has developed a positive reputation from those around baseball.

He also took over as the interim manager for the Giants at the end of the 2023 season when the organization shockingly fired Gabe Kapler with just three games remaining on the schedule.

San Francisco also reportedly interviewed Correa to be their manager before they decided to hire Bob Melvin

This is somewhat of a coming home for Correa. He served as a minor league infield instructor from 2018-2019 before taking the job with the Giants. Correa is one of the great young minds in baseball and it's great that the next chapter of his career will be with the Guardians.
