Several Guardians Change Jersey Number For 2024 Season

David Fry and Austin Hedges will wear a new jersey number for the Cleveland Guardians in 2024.

A number may be insignificant to some. However, to athletes, it can be a lucky charm or a superstition to wear a specific digit on their jersey. Several members of the Cleveland Guardians be changing their uniform numbers for the upcoming season.

David Fry

David Fry made his Major League debut during the 2023 season and donned the number "12" on his jersey for the momentous occasion. He'll have a new number heading into his sophomore season as the utility man will now wear the number "6" on his back.

Guardians fans may be confused by this change because Brayan Rocchio wore this number last year. However, Rocchio changed his jersey number to "4" earlier in the offseason.

Austin Hedges

Austin Hedges agreed to come back to Cleveland on a one-year deal. Some things will be a little bit different from the last time he was in town and that includes the jersey number the catcher will be wearing.

Hedgey wore the number "17" during his first tenure with the Guardians. This time around he'll wear "27" which was worn by Lucas Giolito at the end of last season.

Daniel Espino

Highly ranked pitching prospect Daniel Espino isn't new to the Guardians organization. However, this will be his first season entering the year on the team's 40-man roster. It's still unknown whether or not Espino will make his debut in 2024, but if he does the hard-throwing righty will wear number "66."

Ben Lively, Estevan Florial, Scott Barlow

A few new members who entered the organization over the offseason are Ben Lively, Estevan Florial, and Scott Barlow. Livley will take number "39" (last worn by Oscar Gonzalez) Florial will wear number "90" with the Guardians and Barlow will wear "58."
