Shane Bieber Throws Seven Spectacular Innings In Win Over Rockies

Shane Bieber strikes out six as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Colorado Rockies.

Shane Bieber is looking to get back to his Cy Young ways in 2023 and his performances in the Cactus League should have the rest of the American League Central and beyond on notice.

Bieber led the Cleveland Guardians to a win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon after throwing seven innings. He only allowed one earned run and gave up four hits in the game. Bieber also struck out six in the effort as well.

This start is just one of many that Bieber has had so far in Spring Training. He's posted a 1.62 ERA and only given up three runs over four starts and 16.2 innings pitched.

One sign that Bieber is already locked in and has complete control over his pitches is the number of batters he's struck out. The righty has fanned 14 batters over his four starts and only walked just two.

This sort of control is something I would expect in the middle of July. The fact that Bieber already has this much command over his pitches is downright impressive and unexpected.

Bieber had a rough time in the first half of 2022 and was widely inconsistent with his starts. He finished the last few months of the season with a 2.48 ERA and a 0.944 WHIP, which included a 1.62 ERA in the month of August.

The Guardians already have one of the best pitching rotations in their division, but if Bieber is already pitching like this then they could have one of the best in MLB.
