Cleveland Guardians fans were welcomed to the second half of the season with the worst possible news. The team announced on Friday that ace, Shane Bieber, would miss his start in Pittsburg and awaited MRI results as he experienced forearm discomfort.

We finally have more information on Saturday morning on how long Bieber could be out.

Shane Bieber To 15-Day IL

Bieber has officially been diagnosed with right elbow inflammation and will be placed on the 15-day injured list.

An argument can be made that Bieber has not been the same pitcher he's been in the last three seasons. However, he's still a former Cy Young winner and is the ace of the Guardians' staff. Shane holds an ERA of 3.77 and a WHIP of 1.248 in 2023.

The Guardians either had the choice to keep Bieber this season or trade him for an everyday bat. It looks like the trade is now off the table with this injury.

Michael Kelly Recalled From Triple-A

In a corresponding move, the team recalled RHP Michael Kelly from the Columbus Clippers to get a fresh arm in the bullpen.

Kelly has been called up twice this season but has yet to make an appearance with the Guardians. He currently holds a 2.73 ERA and three saves in his 27 relief appearances in the minors.
