Tanner Bibee Sets New Career High Against Cardinals
The only Cleveland Guardians starter who's rivaled Shane Bieber as being the team's most consistent and reliable pitcher is Tanner Bibee. The right-handed rookie had another incredible start on Saturday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Bibee came into his sixth career start with an ERA of 3.18 and a 1-1 record. A solid stat line, but he would be going up against a Cardinals lineup full of veteran hitters such as Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, and Willson Contreras who feed off pitcher inexperience.
But Bibee stepped on the mound and not only proved he belonged there but thrived in his start. He finished with 6.0 innings pitched, nine strikeouts, two hits, one walk, and one run. This is now Bibee's third quality start so far this season.
He only made one real mistake, which ended up costing him a run. In the second inning, Bibee hung an offspeed pitch to Brendan Donovan who crushed it over the left field wall. This homer was the only run that Bibee allowed.
Cleveland's highly-touted prospect also set a new career high in this start as well. Bibee's nine strikeouts or now the most he's recorded in an MLB game. His previous high was eight strikeouts which he did back during his debut against the Colorado Rockies.
Bibee was more-less dominant on Saturday night. He started strong and finished even stronger retiring 12 of the last 13 batters he saw.
It's become pretty clear that Bibee has established himself in Cleveland's rotation, even when Triston McKenzie and Aaron Civale return from injury.
He was given an opportunity and has shined.
