Tyler Freeman Activated From IL, Guardians Roster Moves
The Cleveland Guardians are finally starting to get healthy as the injury bug swept through the clubhouse shortly after the Trade Deadline. These are the roster moves the team made before opening a two-game set with the Cincinnati Reds.
Tyler Freeman Activated Off Injured List
Tyler Freeman went on the injured list with a right shoulder sprain on August 2. This was shortly after the Guardians decided to play their youth in order to determine who will be a part of the team's future.
Freeman has been very productive in his limited opportunities at the Big League level. He's accumulated 95 plate appearances with Cleveland this season and has a slash line of .286/.344/.701 in that role. He also has a BABIP of .338 showing exactly what he can do when he gets the ball in play.
It will be interesting to see how the Guardians manage Freeman, Gabriel Arias, and Brayan Rocchio all on the Major League roster.
Jose Tena Optioned To Triple-A
The Guardians called up another one of their middle infield prospects with Freeman down due to injury. Jose Tena was called up and got a number of his firsts out of the way including his first hit, first game started, and first RBI.
As mentioned before, Cleveland already has three of their middle infield prospects with the Big League club so there wasn't a current spot for Tena on the roster. Thus, he was sent back down to join the Columbus Clippers at Triple-A.
Tena certainly made a good impression during his limited time in Cleveland though.
