Three Potential Landing Spots For Cal Quantrill

The Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, and St. Louis Cardinals are intriguing destinations for former Cleveland Guardians pitcher Cal Quantrill.

In 2024, Cleveland Guardians will feature a starting rotation that doesn't include Cal Quantrill for the first time in four years.

Quantrill was DFA'd on Monday evening, as the team retooled its 40-man roster.

Which teams may be interested in the former Guardians pitcher? Whether it be by trade or claimed-off waivers, these are three potential suitors for the 28-year-old right-hander.

Kansas City Royals

Quantrill may be leaving Cleveland, but who's to say he won't stay in the American League Central? The Kansas City Royals could be a nice fit for him.

Kansas City needs to address its pitching depth and add some veterans to its starting rotation as well.

That's where Quantrill comes into play.

Taking a low risk on someone who is known to eat innings and has a highly technical technique and delivery could be exactly what the Royals are looking for.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox finished at the bottom of the AL East this season, and there's no way they'll want a repeat of that in 2024.

The first step to addressing their issues is with their starting rotation.

Boston had a starter ERA of 4.68 in 2023, which ranked bottom-10 in baseball. Quantrill may not single-handedly drop that average, but he can be a stable starter in the third or fourth slot for the Red Sox.

St. Louis Cardinals

The MLB trade deadline was all about selling and restarting for the St. Louis Cardinals

They dealt pitchers Jack Flaherty, Chris Stratton, Jordan Hicks, and Jordan Montgomery, and now need to recoup some of that depth.

Quantrill could be a perfect pitcher to add to their rotation, as they retool their roster and hopefully look to be a postseason contender next season.
