Three Remaining Outfield Free Agents Guardians Should Pursue
Some teams have been ultra-aggressive during MLB's free agency period and others have been silent. Then there are teams such as the Cleveland Guardians who have made a couple of minor moves but no blockbuster deals or signings.
The organization has reportedly been hesitant to spend considering their uncertain broadcast deal, but these are a couple of remaining free agents Cleveland should consider if they do decide to bring in a veteran player.
Adam Duvall
Adam Duvall, 35, has put together a solid 10-year MLB career playing for a total of five different teams. He spent the 2024 season with the Boston Red Sox and proved he still has what it takes to get consistent at-bats for a big league team.
The Guardians are in desperate need of some offensive outfield production and this veteran outfielder may be exactly who they're looking for.
Duvall's final slash line was .247/.303/.531 with an OPS of .834. His stats also included 21 home runs and 58 RBI.
FanGraphs Projected Contract: one year, $8.0 million
Tommy Pham
Tommy Pham, 35, has jumped around baseball as he's played four different teams over the last two seasons. He may not be the most highly sought-after free agent by opposing clubs, but he would certainly be an upgrade in Cleveland's outfield.
The Guardians need to add some more slugging to the mix and Pham could provide just that.
He had a combined OPS of .720 as a member of the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024. This would have been the second-highest OPS among outfielders on the Guardians roster (the highest OPS was Ramon Laurenao with a .724).
FanGraphs Projected Contract: one year, $8.0 million
Aaron Hicks
Aaron Hicks, 34, had a couple of rough seasons toward the end of his tenure in the Bronx. However, he revived his career with the Baltimore Orioles helping their young roster reach the 2023 Postseason
Maybe he could do the same thing for the Guardians in 2024.
Hicks played in 65 games for the Orioles last season and finished with a batting average of .275 and a OPS+ of 127. He's also a switch hitter which would even out Cleveland's heavy left-handed hitting lineup.
The Guardians wouldn't need Hicks to play every day, but he would be serviceable as a platoon partner with Will Brennan.
