Chase DeLauter Led The AFL In This Stat, Guardians Prospects
Kyle Manzardo wasn't the only member of the Cleveland Guardians organization to put on an offensive show in the 2023 Arizona Fall League. His fellow Peoria Javelins teammate Chase DeLauter also made a great impression in the desert.
DeLauter finished the season playing in 23 games and had a slash line of .299/.385/.529 and an OPS of .914 in 87 at-bats. This offensive production was good enough to appear in the AFL Fall Starts game at the beginning of November.
There was one area that DeLauter especially excelled at which was hitting with runners in scoring position. The outfielder had a batting average of .226 and an OPS of .785 with teammates on second and third.
DeLauter also finished the season with 27 RBI, which was the most of any hitter in the AFL. 22 of those RBI came with RISP which also led the league.
While Manzardo has a very good chance to be on Cleveland's Opening Day roster, the same can't be said for DeLauter, the Guardians' number four prospect per MLB Pipeline.
The 16th overall pick of the 2022 draft has only played in one full Minor League season. Plus, the Guardians already have a crowded outfield as it is and would most likely prefer to see prospects such as George Valera or Juan Brito get a shot before DeLauter does.
He ended the 2023 season at Double-A with the Akron Rubber Ducks. There's a good chance DeLauter will get promoted to Triple-A quickly if this type of production continues at the beginning of 2024.
