The Seattle Mariners will look for a surprising three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park.

The M's took Game 1 of the series, 10-2, and then took Game 2, 6-5, in extra innings. Because of the wins, the Mariners are 59-53 and they own a 1.0 game lead in the American League West with 50 games to play.

This Sunday game will feature a battle of aces as Mariners star Logan Gilbert takes on Phillies' righty Zack Wheeler.

Gilbert is coming off his worst start of the season, in which he gave up seven earned runs in just 2.2 innings in a loss to the Boston Red Sox on Monday. Despite that, Gilbert is still looking to make some impressive history in 2024.

Per @MarinersPR:

Logan Gilbert leads in WHIP (0.896), aiming to become the first @Mariners pitcher to lead the Majors in WHIP in a season.

Only Randy Johnson in 1995 & Félix Hernández in 2014 have led the AL in WHIP in team history.

Read more in today's Game Notes:

The 27-year-old Gilbert is 6-7 this season with an excellent 3.11 ERA. He's struck out 136 batters in 141.2 innings and has kept the M's in just about every game that he's pitched this season. He was also named to his first All-Star team.

On the other side, Wheeler is one of the top arms in baseball. He's 10-5 with a 2.94 ERA and will present a tough challenge for M's hitters.

The Mariners are lining up like this behind Gilbert:

1) Victor Robles (CF), Randy Arozarena (LF), Cal Raleigh (C), Jorge Polanco (2B), Luke Raley (RF), Mitch Haniger (DH), Josh Rojas (3B), Dylan Moore (SS) and Jason Vosler (1B)

First pitch is 1:10 p.m. PT.
