Dodgers, Mets Reportedly Linked In Potential Trade Deadline Stunner

Los Angeles could be looking to nab one of New York's brightest stars

The New York Mets seemingly are in full-on sell mode.

New York already has made the biggest move of the trade season dealing three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers in a blockbuster. Another massive deal could be on the way as fellow three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander also could be moved.

If Verlander ends up being traded, one team that reportedly could be interested in the future Hall of Famer is the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.

"The Dodgers have made a flurry of small moves so far, landing infielders Amed Rosario and Kiké Hernández and improving their pitching depth with the acquisitions of Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly," Bowden said. "However, none of those transactions significantly move the needle in improving their chances of winning in October. The Dodgers are in the process of working on bigger acquisitions, like possibly trading for Justin Verlander. They’re expected by many to make a splash. If so, with who?"

Verlander has made it known that he would prefer to remain with the Mets, but that may not end up being the case. New York has mightily struggled this season and is looking to recoup assets as it attempts to figure out its next move. The Mets entered the 2023 season with the highest payroll in baseball and were widely expected to contend for a World Series title. That didn't happen, but the Mets could get back on track next season with a few solid moves. It's unclear whether dealing Verlander would be the right move, but Los Angeles reportedly is interested in a move.
