Ex-Yankees Hurler Available; Mets Could Pursue To Improve Bullpen

Should the Mets pursue the former Yankees hurler this offseason?

The New York Mets may be almost done adding to the roster this offseason, but adding a little more help to the bullpen could go a long way.

New York has improved the club on paper this offseason. The Mets added Luis Severino and Sean Manaea to help improve the starting rotation and have made some other intriguing additions.

The bullpen still is an area of the club that could use some work, though. If the Mets want to add to the bullpen, one player who could make a lot of sense is former New York Yankees hurler Keynan Middleton.

The 30-year-old is a free agent after spending the 2023 season with the Chicago White Sox and Yankees. He logged a 3.38 ERA in 51 total appearances and had a 64-to-23 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Middleton was most impressive after joining the Yankees and had a 1.88 ERA in 12 appearances down the stretch.

Middleton is one of the most interesting relievers still on the market and is projected to receive a contract with an annual value of roughly $7.5 million. The righty is just 30 years old and has a 3.84 ERA in 205 total appearances.

New York needs some help in the bullpen and landing someone like Middleton could go a long way. The Mets have had an interesting offseason so far and do seem like they are going to be in a better place in 2024. Improving the bullpen could go a long way in making this idea a reality.

Middleton still is available and certainly could help the Mets.
