Francisco Lindor Played Through Appendix Issue in 2022

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor played through an appendix issue in 2022.
In this story:

Playing through the pain.

After experiencing abdomen pain that would come and go since August of 2021, Francisco Lindor had to have his appendix removed about a week after the Mets were eliminated in the Wild Card round by the San Diego Padres, as he told Mike Puma of The New York Post.

“I could barely move,” Lindor told The Post on Friday.

As Puma reported, this led to an appendectomy for Lindor, which was laparoscopic, with three small incisions. Lindor was sent home from the hospital 12 hours later for a short recovery.

Given the timing of the procedure, it would have conflicted with the Mets playing in the NLDS had they advanced past the Padres.

But Lindor believes he would've played through the pain.

“I probably would have held it,” Lindor said. “I probably would have kept it on the down-low and just continued to play.”

As previously mentioned, Lindor had been dealing with abdomen pain on-and-off since August of 2021 when he landed on the IL with an oblique strain.

“We checked [the appendix] and there was nothing, apparently,” Lindor said. “I just figured that it was something that was going to come on and off, and never say anything.”

In the end, Lindor, who nicknamed his condition "fart bubble," is happy with how things played out.

“It worked out,” Lindor said. “It happened at the right time. I can’t complain.”
